STORIES SURROUND US
This is an invitation to turn creativity toward curiosity and find an outlet for hope in the midst of uncertainty.
It’s also an opportunity to showcase Maine's creative talent and to document the myriad ways life is lived in these cold winter months.
From January - April 2021, filmmakers across the state are invited to produce short documentary films (1-5 minutes in length) depicting slices of life in Maine at this time.
All films produced will tour across the state this summer, screening in outdoor spaces. After touring across the state, the films will live online in a publicly accessible archive.

HOW WILL I FIND A STORY TO TELL?
Perhaps there's a slice of life in Maine you've been wanting to document for a while, but just needed a nudge to do it. Or perhaps you have no clue where to start. Regardless of where you find yourself in the process, our team is happy to help. For those seeking a place to start, email email@example.com and we'll point you in a direction related to your interests.
CAN I PRODUCE MORE THAN 1 FILM?
You're welcome to produce as many pieces as you'd like between now and April 30th. All we ask is that you are thoughtful with your submissions. One carefully produced film is preferable to 3 half thought out videos. Please be honest with yourself about your time and capacity.
CAN I COLLABORATE WITH A TEAM?
Yes! Collaboration makes the world go round and is highly encouraged. That said, please make sure that any and all collaborations are carried out in a COVID safe manner. See COVID safety guidelines, for reference.
HOW IMPORTANT ARE DEADLINES?
We can all relate, deadlines are difficult - especially in the midst of a global pandemic, when it's cold and dark outside. That said, in order for this collaboration to work, it's important for everyone to do their part and submit final films by April 30th. If you know yourself well enough to know that deadlines might be a challenge, sign yourself up for an accountability buddy by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We'll help keep you on track.
DO YOU HAVE ANY CREATIVE GUIDELINES?
This project was born out of a desire to create without restriction. We encourage all participants to take risks with their storytelling in whatever way that might look like. If this feels open ended, know it's intentionally so. The goal is to enjoy the process and to play along the way. If you're not having fun, what's the point?
HOW SHOULD I SUBMIT MY FINAL FILM?
Please submit by sharing a private downloadable Vimeo link of your final film to email@example.com
